If you are a poet and your answers are yes, yes, and yes, then you’re invited to join Elena Georgiou for a six-week course with an emphasis on generating new material. You will be encouraged to explore without expectation; to discover new obsessions; and to investigate new ways of revisiting the touchstones of your creative work. Elena will begin each 2-hour session with prompts designed to inspire new ideas and associations from memories, situations, objects, personas, erasures, and other unexpected juxtapositions and connections. After the initial prompts and writing assignments, the rest of the time will be spent on sharing new material, offering descriptive feedback, and mini craft or process talks and conversations designed to help participants move early drafts to their next incarnations.

Plus, two TTWC Bonus Offerings:

  • Four 5-minute asynchronous inspirational videos to watch in your own time and at your own pace.
  • A 60-minute Process & Accountability Conversation (scheduled after the final class. Time: TBD)

Who This Is For:

This course is designed for poets who have experience with the foundations of poetry. (Line, sentence, stanza, music, image, diction, form, etc.). It will be a place to focus on content—what you want to say, how you want to say it. Also, if you’re stuck, this will be a time to lift yourself out of a rut. If you’re floundering, this will be the time to hone in on what demands your attention.

What You Will Leave With:

  • Drafts of six new poems
  • Four Inspirational videos to watch (& re-watch)
  • Ideas to generate new work
  • Ideas on process and accountability
  • Ideas to keep up your momentum

If you are not a poet, or are looking for an all-genre, in-person creative retreat, check out our April Grove retreat in California with Sherri and Reiko. You can also contact any of us for individual coaching and manuscript consultations.  Explore these options and more on our website.

FAQs

Deadline to apply: December 27, 2021 (but early applications are welcome!) You will hear back in a week or less.

How to apply: Submit two poems that you feel are representative of your work, accompanied by one small paragraph (maximum 100 words) about your areas of interest and places in your poems and/or process where you feel you need inspiration. These should all be compiled into ONE file and no more than 5 pages, and will accompany your $25 non-refundable processing fee. You will have the opportunity to submit this file once you get to the billing page during your APPLICATION check out. You will see a button for file upload in the top left corner of that form.  If you have any problems, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected], or using the contact form on the contact page.

What happens next? If you are accepted into the workshop, you will be sent a link to enroll with additional information.

Tuition: Your full tuition payment of $600 is expected upon acceptance to secure your place. Space is limited, and unpaid acceptance slots will not be held.

What does this online class entail? Each week, Elena will lead a live chat for group discussion. The course is offered via  (Zoom) for 6 weekly live meetings.

Do I need any special technology to take an online class?  We use Zoom.

Who do I contact if I have to miss a class? If you have to miss a class, please let Elena know as soon as possible.

Recordings: The magic happens live.  However, each live session will be recorded for later viewing by participants only.  These will be password protected, streaming-only, and will be available for 14 days after the workshop. The recordings are intended to allow participants who were unable to join live that session the opportunity to view the workshop, and also are available for students who were there but want to refresh their memories or get clarity on an aspect.

When will I be put in touch with my facilitator? TTWC put you in touch with Elena about a week prior to the first class. At that point, she will tell you what, if anything, you’re expected to prepare for your first day.

I have to drop the class. What do I do? If you have paid to join us and cannot attend, please let TTWC know as soon as possible.  Because the workshop is limited to 12, tuition is nonrefundable. However, we will be accepting a limited number of waitlisted applications, and if we can fill your spot before December 27th, we will refund your tuition, less a $75 processing fee.  (Please contact TTWC if you have questions or concerns about our policies.)

Could my course ever be cancelled or rescheduled? What happens if it is? If your course doesn’t reach minimum enrollment or your facilitator has an emergent issue, we may reschedule or cancel up to 72 hours before the course is set to begin. If we reschedule or cancel a whole course (rather than a single class meeting), we will always give participants the opportunity for a full refund. If the course is rescheduled, you are welcome to remain enrolled if the new dates work for you.
